Alfa Laval is a leading supplier of specialized products and customized solutions based on its core technologies of heat transfer, separation technology and the processing of liquids. The products and solutions are used in areas such as food and water supply, pharmaceuticals, energy and environmental protection. Alfa Laval products are also used in power plants, on board ships, in oil and gas extraction, in the mechanical industry, in mining and for the treatment of waste water, as well as in climate and cooling applications. In the marine segment Alfa Laval develops and produces exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGC). This removes sulfur oxides from exhaust gases.
Current situation, developments and projects
From 1 January 2020, limits will be set on the amount of sulfur emissions. The Alfa Laval PureSOx scrubber was launched in 2012 to allow ships to comply with SOx limits while continuing to use economically attractive heavy fuel oil. As a result of the regulation, the demand for scrubbers will increase considerably. To meet this demand, standardization and modularization of the system is required. The capacity of gas purifiers must also be significantly increased and performance optimized to serve the entire maritime sector.

It requires good coordination and cooperation between development, product management, sales and engineering. The new engineer is challenged to benchmark and improve the current processes and organizational structure and to set up and implement the missing work processes. This should result in a shorter time to market, more efficient product development and good sales and order execution.
The New Engineer must have a technical mindset, be able to work quickly in systems, and have the skills of a change manager.
